Meet Otis. He’s a little chunky, a little crooked, and exceptionally handsome.
Palette Fish Otis is created entirely from pieces of my used dried paint palettes, hand-cut and layered onto smooth Gessobord to create an original piece that falls somewhere between painting, collage, and sculpture. Soft coastal blues and aquas mingle with dusty pink, coral, ochre and deeper navy, while a streak of metallic gold runs right through the middle.
The raised palette pieces give Otis wonderful dimension, allowing the texture, curled edges, and layers of paint to cast tiny shadows and change as the light moves across him. And because every piece comes from a real working artist’s palette, you can spot brushstrokes, color mixtures and happy accidents left behind from other paintings.
Completely one of a kind and impossible to reproduce exactly, Otis is proof that even the scraps can become part of the story.
