Meet the Artist
I’m Anna Marie Howell- my family and friends call me Annie. I’m a mixed media artist, color enthusiast, and storyteller through art. I am living and creating in Greenville, South Carolina.
I’ve always been drawn to the creative world. Music, drawing, painting and a healthy appreciation for anything colorful have been woven into my life for as long as I can remember. But becoming a professional artist? That wasn’t exactly part of the plan. I like to call myself an accidental artist… although there are no accidents in God’s plan.
Without any formal art training, I discovered painting after college while building a career in corporate marketing. What started as a creative outlet slowly became something much bigger. After fifteen years in the marketing world. I traded office life for motherhood, and somewhere along the way, my love of painting grew into a business I could have never imagined.
Today I am grateful to spend most days creating art, raising my two daughters with my husband, and finding inspiration in the world around me.
Through bold colors and rich texture, my goal is to transport you to a place of peace and wonderment so that together, we can appreciate the beauty of the earth.
My work is inspired by the places, colors, and moments that make us feel something. The quiet beauty of a Lowcountry marsh. A winding country road. The last golden light stretching across a field. A familiar church steeple, a colorful Charleston doorway, or a sky that makes you pull over to snap a picture.
I’m especially drawn to the beauty hiding in everyday places- the scenes we pass a hundred times without giving them a second thought.
Working primarily in acrylic, I layer bold color and texture and expressive marks in oil pastels and touches of gold leaf to create mixed media paintings that feel familiar and unexpected. My work often walks the line between representation and abstraction, allowing color and imagination to tell their own stories.
